After 25 years as a photojournalist, I’m now a freelance photographer and loving it, because I can concentrate on portraits. It means I can focus my work on capturing your face, your expressions, your emotions towards your friends and family, your lifestyle. I love photography, whether it’s in my studio north of Cobourg in the Northumberland Hills, or on location. Family events, business portraits, editorial work – I love images that say who we are and how we live our lives.
Faces are endlessly fascinating to me. I’m really happy when I’m shooting and concentrating, waiting for moments. I’ve spent the last three decades photographing people at home, at family events, in work places, in the street and in rural settings – as both a newspaper photojournalist and freelance photographer. In 2008, I was North American photojournalist of the year for suburban newspapers. I can meet you in your favourite location or shoot in my studio. My photography style is relaxed and casual, and although I do have standard poses, I like to play and experiment, and these are often my favourite images. The studio offers a unique adventure because it’s distilled down to simply you, and I can offer a variety of different, clean backgrounds, and a very private space. People often say they find the session fun. How many of us actually look forward to being photographed? Not many. But it’s actually a really nice hour in your busy life. Have your photograph taken for yourself, for your friends and family, and for your great-children, who will get to know a bit more about themselves by looking into your face. Portrait photography documents your life story and as the years go by, reminds us of how we were. It’s very powerful, very personal, and even fun.
