Jack Taylor and Melinda Berenyi are proud owners of The House of the Caribbean. Jack was born in Jamaica and immigrated to Canada, many years ago, living in Toronto, Ontario.
Melinda was born in Canada and raised in a Hungarian household here in the Kelowna area. Jack made his way out west and after meeting Melinda, decided to relocate to Kelowna and start their life together. Once living in Kelowna, Jack quickly realized that there were many Caribbean cultures residing here, but a lack of multicultural events, food and music to unite everyone. Jack and Melinda also found it very difficult to find ingredients in Kelowna to cook Caribbean cuisine. So, in September 2011, they opened The House of the Caribbean Food Supply. Jack and Melinda meet many different ethnic backgrounds through the store and have realized how thrilled people are to see a little more diversity in the Kelowna area. The House of the Caribbean operates a unique store that supports a very niche market. From the moment you walk into this store, the scents of delicious foods fill your senses. Jack and Melinda offer a very personalized service and know many of their customers by name. Based on customer's comments, many have said they enjoy shopping with House of the Caribbean and appreciate the hands on approach. This welcoming environment separates them from just any food store. They are confident that if they continue to offer this level of service, they will be able to continually grow and expand their product mix.
