Description
For those of you who do not know Dr. Walford, he has worked out of this mobile dental clinic for the last 27 years, following a decade of dental practice in Vancouver, Duncan, Tahsis, and Cumberland in the Comox Valley.
This clinic moves between Hornby and Denman Islands, lying south of the Comox Valley, located on Vancouver Island, found about 100 miles north of Vancouver, British Columbia. Each island has a population of 1000 persons, and the"Dental Bus" spends half the month at each island.
At 304 square feet, it may be the smallest clinic in British Columbia. However, it effectively services these two communities and allows enjoyment of a beautiful rural lifestyle. Dr. Walford operates a small organic farm, builds boats and runs a sailing school in his spare time. He has practiced for 37 years and is a graduate of McGill? School of Dentistry.
The interior of the bus is similar to a yacht, as boat-building is one of Dr. Walford's hobbies. It features accents of yew, alder, yellow cedar, teak, birch and fir in a curvaceous and harmonious decor that takes full advantage of all the light and ventilation provided by the windows and doors of a bus.
Despite its small size, it does not seem cramped or crowded. Any dental practitioner could work out of it comfortably, enjoying two dental chairs, two x-rays, in-floor heat, multi-zone stereo, and all the digital, sterilization and safety systems of a modern clinic. There are mercury removal systems to protect the wastewater stream and also maintain air quality in such a small space.
