I’ve been behind the camera for a few years now, going through the various growing pains of the self-taught photographer. Learning how to make the camera an extension of my body, figuring out the exposure and composition of the scene I am looking to create. Learning how to use light to create mood with angle, distance and power. Learning how to see the world as my camera sees it through the various lenses I use. Spending hours and hours learning how to do post-production and yield the final image I am looking for.
Photography is more than being behind a camera. Photography is about exploring the world I live in. Taking something ordinary and adding a new perspective to it. It’s sharing the story unfolding in front of the lens. It’s being completely honest with myself and shooting with conviction. When I find a colour I love I fill the photo with that colour, it’s finding unique lighting opportunities and making a statement with it… it’s so much more than being behind a camera. I’ve learned a lot about life and myself through shooting. Like that sometimes no matter how hard to try to force something… create the right atmosphere, get the right people, you just need to wait for the perfect moment. Like no matter how hard I try to be like someone else, I’ll end up getting frustrating results and not getting the shots I desire. I try to be honest, open and real with everyone I meet… and that includes whoever I am photographing. I am not just looking to set up poses or scenes, get the shots and be done. I am looking to create lasting impressions and experiences by which we both will leave knowing a bit more about each other and ourselves.
