When I recently had a problem with my furnace, the serviceman arrived promptly at my house. It turned out that my thermostat needed 3 triple A batteries, which were replaced. I was advised the cost for this service was $180.00. When I queried this, he told me there would be an additional charge of $7.00 for the batteries so I ended up paying $194.00 for a ten minute job. As batteries can be picked up for about $1.25, I was somewhat surprised they were not thrown in. I was also told that my furnace filter needed cleaning. As I was being charged for the hour, I feel this could also have been done by the serviceman. I even had to print up my own invoice. As I live in an older house, I often need the services of a plumber. I will not be using this one again.
