Description
Linda Jeffrey has a track record of public service, as a city councilor, a provincial legislator and as a cabinet minister. For over twenty years, she has served the community at Brampton City Hall and the Ontario Legislature.
Born in Cork, Ireland, Linda immigrated as a child to Canada with her parents. Linda and her husband moved to Brampton in 1983 where they purchased their first home. Her three sons were all born and raised in Brampton.
After serving years as a community volunteer, Linda put her name forward for elected office and was elected in 1991 to Brampton City Council. After serving four consecutive terms on Brampton City Council, Linda was elected in 2003 to represent Brampton at Queen’s Park. She was re-elected in 2007 and 2011. She is honoured to have been the first female elected as a Member of the Provincial Parliament from Brampton.
An accomplished leader, Linda has served as Ontario’s Minister of Natural Resources, Minister of Labour, Minister Responsible for Seniors, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, and as Chair of Cabinet.
Since her election to the provincial legislature over ten years ago, Linda has worked hard to serve both the people of Brampton and the Region of Peel. She fought for a number of critical initiatives for our community, including:
Investments to improve health care in Brampton, including the redevelopment of William Osler Health Centre’s Lynch Street project – better known as the new Peel Memorial Centre for Integrated Health and Wellness, and the construction and opening of the Brampton Civic Hospital.
Tackling gridlock, with the completion of the last two phases of Highway 410, a $95 million investment in Züm, and $300 million in gas tax funding for Brampton.
Uploading social services and court security costs that were downloaded on our cities in the nineties, which has enabled Brampton to balance its budget while investing in community services and keeping taxes low.
Linda believes Brampton can and should do better, and that is why she is running to be mayor.
