Description
The Hungary Butcher sources all of our beef from local farmers. We ensure there is no USA feed or GMO products being fed to the animals and that they are hormone and antibiotics free also. The local farmers grow their own feed, hay, and pasture for the animals.
The beef we supply is pasture/grass raised and silage finished.
All beef needs to have some fat in order to get the marbling which makes the meat tender and tasty. Cows do not develop fat on grass alone. Cows also need fibre in order properly digest their food. The fibre is gained through the feeding of silage. The farmers who we get our beef from use silage which is made up of the stalk, not the corn kernel. The cows we purchase are not fed corn, and the silage they eat is produced on the farm, not brought in from the US.
Silage is produce after the corn is removed from the stalks. The stalks are gathered and ground into silage which is then fed in limited quantities to the cows to provide the fibre and promote the production of fat.
These farming practices are what helps us ensure quality, GMO, hormone, antibiotic and corn free beef.
We do not want to mislead anyone, however it is difficult to explain the whole feeding process. The animals are not fed corn, but they do get silage feed which contains the corn stalks. The corn stalks are not the same as the kernel, however in order to be completely honest, we have to inform people that the silage is produced from the corn stalks, and here lies all the confusion.
