Serving nothing by traditonal French delicacies, Bistro Chezanne is an ode to France, from food, to culture to decor.
Just like Paris...in the heart of Streetsville. Chef Anne-Marie Ellis grew up on a farm in the Netherlands where she learned to love and appreciate fresh, home-grown and homemade food at a young age. She started her first culinary job in a restaurant at age 16 and there her culinary aptitude was immediately recognized. This inspired her to study Hotel and Restaurant Management. While attending Haagland Hotelschool in The Hague, she chose to experience a variety of food service establishment during her summers, and discovered the beauty of fine cuisine during a summer-job at Relais and Château Restaurant and Hotel “Vreugd and Rust”. She immigrated to Canada in 1995 and decided to focus on Culinary Arts and subsequently started her apprenticeship at The Old Mill Restaurant. She continued at The Fairmont Royal York Hotel under tutelage of Certified Master Chef George McNeil and graduated with honours from the Advanced Apprentice Cook Program in 1999. While in Canada she has worked at The Old Mill Restaurant, The Fairmont Royal York Hotel and Stage West Hotel and Theatre. In 2004 she successfully challenged the Certified Chef the Cuisine designation and was invited to become an examiner for future CCC candidates. She started her educational career as Chef-instructor at The Culinary Arts School of Ontario for professional students as well as recreational culinary classes. In 2005 she continued her career in education as part-time professor at Humber College. Her favourite pass time is spending Sunday afternoons in the kitchen cooking with and for family and friends, and after five years of teaching college students and her most recent visit to France she decided to follow a life long dream of opening a French restaurant.
