Description
Mark Kleyn is a violist in the Ottawa area.
As a passionate musician with an expertise in sport psychology, he teaches violin and viola, conducts ensembles, and is available for solo or ensemble performances for weddings other special events.
Mark has privately taught violin and viola since his high school years to students of all ages. He has also received extremely high praise for his dedication to music and interpersonal warmth in youth programs, including the El Sistema “Kalamazoo Kids in Tune” program, Michigan’s American String Teacher’s Association Camps, and for his service as conductor of the uOttawa Pops Orchestra.
Mark is currently a member of the Ottawa Symphony Orchestra and has served with the Kalamazoo, Battle Creek and Gaylord Symphony Orchestras. Mark has also been a pivotal member in highly praised chamber ensembles, including the award-winning “Shmer Quartet” of Kalamazoo and “Wood and Wire” from Ottawa. Mark currently plays with the Oberon String Trio in Ottawa.
In addition to his performing career, Mark is continuing his studies at the University of Ottawa to research the application of sport psychology to musicians. Specifically, Kleyn is comparing the emergence of leadership in sports teams and chamber music ensembles.
