I use a client-centered, strengths-based approach to my practice. I pull from a variety of therapeutic approaches to build a tailored intervention that best suits your needs.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Cognitive behavioural therapy is a well researched a proven highly effective psychotherapeutic intervention for many areas, including depression and anxiety. CBT involves identifying and challenging irrational thoughts and negative patterns of thought about ourselves and about others. The goal is to better understand how these thoughts negatively affect our mood in order to alter unwanted behavior patterns and better control our emotions.
Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)
MBSR pairs mindfulness (brining awareness to the present moment without judgment to accept ones emotions, thoughts and physiological experiences) with specific strategies geared toward helping to alleviate chronic pain, anxiety, depression and stress.
Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT)
ACT combines mindfulness-based therapy, and CBT with the aim of bolstering one’s well-being by challenging negative emotions and thoughts. In doing this ACT takes into consideration one’s traits, beliefs and behaviors to help them to reduce avoidant coping tools. ACT also addresses one’s commitment to making changes, and what to do about it when this becomes difficult or when motivation wanes.
